China: through the Lens of John Thomson : James Watt Centre, Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh

This looks like a very interesting exhibition. Thanks to Helen for sending the information.

We are delighted to announce the opening of the touring exhibition of the photography of alumni John Thomson. John Thomson was one of the first to photograph south-east Asia in the 1870s, and the exhibition China: through the Lens of John Thomson features stunning photography of landscapes and people – in particular women. The original glass plate negatives are with the Wellcome Collection. This is the first time this particular exhibition, curated by Betty Yao, has been seen in Edinburgh.

The exhibition is in the James Watt Centre at the University’s Edinburgh Campus until 22 March 2022.

Booking is required for external visitors because of Covid.
